To
excel in school, a child needs to revise and
practice regularly.
The problem however is, that education is
at best perceived as drab by students. And
at its worst, it can be scary!!
The
fear of failure in examinations and the desire
to succeed in them, serves as a source of
motivation for most students. However, this
motivation typically kicks in just before
the exam. And overuse of this fear carries
the risk of transforming students into zombies
instead of enthusiastic curious learners.
Educational
scientists have repeatedly shown that if positively
and continuously motivated, (not only for
results but also for effort : for example
time spent on learning), students can show
dramatic improvements in their achievement
levels. In fact today's workplaces also extensively
employ incentives to motivate their employees.
Research has also shown that an important
factor is immediacy of rewards. Exam results
however, typically come after some time. And
parents, given their busy lifestyles, are
not always able to recognise and reward effort
put in by their children.
iPerform
attempts to address this critical problem
in school education by using a unique system
called iPoints which allows students to earn
points for every learning activity they perform
in the system : which then can be redeemed
for exciting prizes. |
