1 :- Comprehension Passage
It is designed to test the students understanding of the passage
and his ability to understand, enterpret, evaluate and respond
to the given passage . In other words, the leading skill is treated,
to content assumes more importance than expression in the asnwers.

Anwers should be brief and to the point.

2 :- Note-Making passage
The question intends to test the following :
- student's skill in making notes based on a given passage, using
negonisable abbreviations whereever necessary,

their skill to develop these notes for the purpose of summarising
and developing them in a coherent piece of writing.
Distribution
of marks
Abbreviations
(minimum 4) - 1 mark
Title - 1 mark
Content - 3 marks
(two or three Sub-titles depending on the passage.) Total : (5
marks)

The notes include a title, the main points, sub-headings and sub-points
related to the sub-headings with suitable and recognisable abbreviatious
or symbols.

The sentences should be incomplete.
- Numbering of points can be indicated in different ways with
a consistent pattern.

Summary

The Summary includes all the important points given in the notes
and the theme.
- It should have an introductory and concluding sentence and within
80 words.

Comprehension (Coherence, language) - 2 marks
Expression - 1 mark.

- Advanced Writing Skills
Q
3 :- The question attempts to test the students skill in writing
a Notice, Advertisement, Invitation responding to an invitation
in a formal/informal way and desigining/drafting of posters.

The format includes : Notice, Date, Heading, Writer's, Name and
Designation.

The content should contain the 'what, when, where and how' of
the matter (wherever applicable).

The emphasis is on brevity and only relevant details.

- 1 mark

(Title, reporter's name, place and date).

of the concerned event interspreased with comments (like An eye

falling short of the word - Limit.

7 - Extract from any chapter of `Guided Reading'.

This question has been designed to test the student's under
standing of the text and their ability to interpret, evaluate
and respond to the questions based on the given passage.

other words, it attempts to test their reading skills.

- 1 mark
Expression - 1 mark.

Answers should be brief and to the point. Preferably 2 points
in one anwer.

9 and 10 :- These questions have been set to test the students
understanding of the text and their ability to interpret, evaluate
and respond to the issues raised therein.

The student should be able to justify his/her viewpoint with relevant
facts drawn from the texts.
Content - 4 marks
Expression - 6 marks
(Correct
grammetical construction, apt vocabulary, coherent presentation,
correct-spelling and punctuation).

The content should be paragraphs. It could be on the
theme, characters or extrapolatory in nature.

The word-limit is 150 words.
